Jonathon Sommerfeld is a trial attorney whose civil litigation practice in state and federal court concentrates on the defense of municipalities, school districts, park districts, police departments, railroads, public housing authorities, and private businesses. Over the course of 10 years, Jonathon has successfully defended his clients at all stages of litigation, including numerous motions to dismiss, motions for summary judgment, jury verdicts, and appeals. Jonathon was selected as a Super Lawyers “Rising Star” for 2026 and 2027.
Jonathon obtained a B.A. from the University of Illinois in 2014 and a J.D. from Loyola University Chicago in 2017. During law school, Jonathon was an award-winning oralist and captain of Loyola’s American Bar Association national moot court competition team, a teaching assistant for Property Law and Contract Law, and a research assistant to a distinguished law professor. Following law school, Jonathon was also an Adjunct Law Professor at Loyola University Chicago School of Law where he co-taught a course titled “Appellate Advocacy Honors Seminar 598-001.”
